The Fear of Letting Go

The fear of letting go of something you hold very close when knowing you really need to let go of it can be very paralyzing. It might even have severe consequences to your life, your health, or your business.

A friend of mine described holding onto an old habit of not wearing a seatbelt in a vehicle. Where did it come from? Long ago not wearing one saved his life. All evidence suggests wearing one is vital for safety and he knows it, yet he continues to go without far too often.

Another friend has been trying to establish a pattern of consistent exercise. The specific consequences to this person’s health and life are clear. Yet there is still something holding onto old ways.

Finally there is me. For a long time I followed a similar pattern in my business. I was vague in focusing my business on all entrepreneurs. I knew better. I learned differently. Yet I was influenced by a fear inside that kept me from taking a step with my business I knew would deliver greater results, just as my one friend’s actions could harm his safety and his very life and just as my other friend’s non-actions could harm his health and his life.

Each of us had the knowledge, the information, and the tools to act in a more appropriate manner given our goals and interests. So why didn’t we?

Many entrepreneurs, once they have gained an essential foundational level of business mastery, fail to act upon that mastery to succeed as they wish. They end up struggling with their business. Why do they?

It’s because very often knowledge and understanding are not enough.

Knowing or knowing better cannot overcome the fear firmly planted on your path blocking progress toward the results you really want.

What fears block your path of entrepreneurial freedom?

What old habits unconsciously feed that fear?

What underlying beliefs are they based on?

What outside influences limit your actions?

When you can see your fears you can shift their powerful influence over your actions or non-actions.

Can’t see them? That’s okay. It’s hard to do. They often operate unconsciously and are very difficult to see within oneself, even to people who “should know better.” Here’s a hint. If you aren’t experiencing the results you want and feel you have a pretty good foundational level of business mastery, then fear on some level is limiting you.

Effective entrepreneurial coaching will help you unveil your fears, your limiting beliefs, as well as the patterns and external influences that have been limiting your success.
