The age old question has a similar version in the business world and in this post I will share how shifting from one side of the question to the other can can immediately shift your attitude AND ultimately the results you experience in business and life!
The business version of the chicken or the egg question carries on from my recent post Beware Of Your Border Bullies.
When you excitedly share a new business development, opportunity or idea with people close to you is their usual response some version of directly saying or implying “I’ll believe it when I see it”?
How does it make you feel?
Do you then find yourself also saying or thinking the same thing?
Before long you begin to believe that. You second guess yourself and your decisions. You become highly critical of EVERYTHING you do and everything you produce.
It limits you and ultimately it proves yourself and the others right. Spiraling down towards being stuck you’ll feel frustrated, angry, depressed, and powerless to do anything about it. You’ll be waiting for IT to happen magically so you can then believe it to be true.
The catch is that now it simply cannot happen and the continual reinforcement will make sure it never does.
Now what about shifting two words in that original phrase.
I’ll see it when I believe it!
The seed of success is planted deep within you. When you shift your language you have the power to reinforce a new belief. A belief that you are capable. A belief that you are worthy. A belief that you have all that you need to succeed.
With your reinforced new belief you will shift your attitude. You will frame things positively and look at your new business developments, opportunities, and ideas with excitement and confidence. When others continue to suggest that they will believe it when they see it you will have the inner power to let it pass with no impact whatsoever.
With a new positive frame of reference your all important actions will move you forward making progress one step after another. Procrastination and avoidance will no longer dominate your world.
All due to a small shift in a simple, yet extremely powerful phrase.
This wonderful quote sums it all up nicely.
“Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes…your destiny.”
Change your thoughts and words and change your destiny!
So which should come first?
“I’ll believe it when I see it” or “I’ll see it when I believe it!”
I hope it’s a much easier answer now than answering the chicken or the egg question!
You’d better believe it!
“Life is meant to be embraced, enjoyed and fully lived, not merely endured!”
