Shift your language, shift your perspective, maybe even shift other people’s perspective, and you WILL shift your experience.
SHIFT HAPPENS!
The next time you head out for a walk, run, cycle, or other similar activity greet every person you pass. Say good morning, good afternoon, or even just say hi. Just say the words to every single person (or group) without fail and you will be rewarded.
- You may not feel like saying it and be in a bad mood. Say it anyway!
- You may be half asleep still wishing you were back at home in bed. Say it anyway!
- Your inner voice may be telling you how tired you are or that you hurt. Say it anyway!
- The other person might not be looking at you. Say it anyway!
- The other person might look grumpy. Say it anyway!
With each passing person and time you say good morning something will shift inside of you. You will begin to feel lighter, more energized, more positive, and even happier. With each passing greeting you’ll smile more. With each passing “good morning” you’ll actually believe it is a good morning.
You will begin to enjoy the activity you are doing even more.
Now if the other person returns the greeting that’s a bonus. Especially if it’s positive and happy. All the benefits I just mentioned will come even faster and more intensely.
Just try it. You’ll see.
Now you cannot control another person. Your positive greeting may have no influence over another person. First and foremost this is about you. Even if the other person does not acknowledge you or respond you will gain by putting it out there. But for some your positive greeting may be all they needed to create a major shift in their day.
You may never know the extent of an impact your good morning greeting might make. Trust it will happen. Know it is good.
So while doing your physical activity this week, especially if you find yourself less than motivated at the start (bombarding yourself with too much negative self talk), say good morning or hello to everyone you pass. Throw in a little wave too.
You will shift, embrace, and enjoy the moment and you just never know the power you’ll have in shifting someone else’s day.
Remember…
“Life is meant to be embraced, enjoyed and fully lived, not merely endured!”
To your health,
Brent
